Amelia Louise (nee Reckner) Kruger

April 6, 1861 -- October 26, 1937

Amelia Louise Kruger, daughter of Carl and Louise Reckner, was born on April 6, 1861, in Howard County, Iowa, on the old homestead 8 miles southeast of Riceville, now owned and occupied by her brother, E. W. Reckner. Twenty-three years later, on March 13, 1884, she became the bride of Edward Kruger, on the present Edward Kruger farm two miles north of the old home. Here she spent a full and happy life rearing the eight children with which the Lord had blessed their union.

When in 1917 the ill health of Mr. Kruger compelled them to retire from the farm, they located in Riceville. Her husband was taken from her side on January 10, 1919.

For the past two years she had been confined to her home with illness, several times she was at the point of death. Apparently on the way to complete recovery, the Lord suddenly called her home on Tuesday evening of last week, October 26, at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 20 days.

Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, she, by the grace of God, remained a trusting believer in her Savior, Jesus Christ, until the end. She dearly loved her Savior, His word, and His church.

We laid her to rest in God's Acre on the Lutheran Cemetery at the side of her husband, Friday, October 29, 1937; Rev. Leckband officiated.

Fred, her oldest son, was a victim of a heart attack last December 27. Of the remaining seven children, who mourn her passing: Edward, Dora (Mrs. William Rieken), and Julia (Mrs. Carl Sauer) all of Riceville; and Lottie (Mrs. A. F. Pfaffenbach) of Watertown, Wisconsin, were present to visit their mother. Distance prevented the other children from attending: Emil in California, Ray in Huntington Beach, California; and Cora (Mrs. E. W. Wellman) Eugene, Oregon.

Other near relatives in attendance were brothers: Christian Reckner, Norcross, Minnesota; E. W. Reckner, Elma; and her sister, Mrs. A. Konst, Alta Vista.

Among her mourners are also 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
