Ole Nelson Svingen was born at Renna, Ringeriget, Norway, October 13, 1822. Later the family moved to Svingen, South Aurdal, Valders.
In 1852 Mr. Svingen married Sigrid K. Bole. Soon after they emigrated to America. They settled at New Albany, Green Co., Wisconsin. In 1857, to Freeborn Co., Minn. Sometime later they homesteaded in Mower county. They lived on this homestead until Mr. Svingen was too old and feeble to run the farm. Lately he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. H.J. Knutson, his wife having died in 1880.
Mr. and Mrs. Svingen's marriage was blessed with eleven children. Of these, six survive him. There are thirty-one grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The living children are: Mrs. S. Ulland of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; Mrs. O.G. Anderson of Corning, Minn.; Anton and Ed. Nelson of Bascobal, Wis.; Mrs. H. J. Knutson and Seaver Nelson of this place, who were all permitted to be present at the funeral.
Within the last two years Mr. Svingen suffered two light strokes of apoplexy. The last few months he enjoyed good health.
Dec 21, he suffered a very severe stroke. He was unconscious for several days. On the 27th he passed away quietly and as we hope, because of his earnest confession of Christ, he left for a better home.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. Waldeland at the U.N.L. church and the remains laid to rest in the U.N.L. cemetery on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 29th.
