Funeral services for Bess Buchholtz of Riceville were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2005 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Parris officiating.
Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Ann Mae Roethler was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sang, "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pall bearers were: Charles Machin, John Machin, David Howland, Tim Howland, Jim Gerardy, and Rich Meiers.
Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Bess, 92, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
Bess Irene Buchholtz was born on February 9, 1913 at Newton, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Dixson) Machin.
On November 24, 1930 she was united in marriage to Louis Buchholtz at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, IA. They became the parents of three children, Evelyn, Rose Marie and Dean.
Bess baked wedding cakes for many years, and was well known by everyone. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
Survivors include a daughter: Evelyn Meiers of Tipton, IA; a son: Dean (Patricia) Buchholtz of Morris, IL; four grandchildren: Dennis (Shirley) Meiers of Port Byron, IL, Richard (Lisa) Meiers of Tipton, IA, Debra (Jim) Gerardy of Maquoketa, IA and Kirk Buchholtz of Naperville, IL; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Harold Machin of Osage, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louie; a daughter: Rose Marie Miller; three sisters: Bernice O'Rourke, Ardis Machin, and Dorothy Machin; two brothers: Robert J. and Raymond Machin.
