Lester Raymond Seavy 1912-2000

Funeral services for Lester Seavy of Riceville, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Mowbray officiated.

Lester, 87, died Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Lester Raymond Seavy was born May 17, 1912 in Riceville, the son of Frank and Charlotte (Meinzer) Seavy. He attended grade school and two years of high school in Riceville.

He worked on his parent’s farm east of Riceville. During this time Lester completed a correspondence course from Cook Electrical School. In 1942 he moved to Burbank, California, where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft.

He entered the Army on May 11, 1942. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific and U.S. Continental area. He was an automotive mechanic in the 23rd Military Police with the rank of technician 4th grade. He was discharged on November 9, 1945.

After discharge from the service he returned to Lockheed Aircraft where he worked until retiring in 1959.

During his retirement years Lester did a variety of handyman work such as lawn mowing, electrical, plumbing, lawn mower and auto repair out of the shop at his home. Lester returned home to visit his family and friends on a yearly basis until 1984. He had an avid interest in cars and their repair.

Lester is survived by one sister, Hazel Seavy, of Riceville.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers: Floyd, Donald, Gaylord, and Gilbert.
