Funeral services for Mrs. Gunda E. Nelson, 91, who died at her home in St. Ansgar Friday, April 15, 1960, were held Monday, April 18 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don R. Hamilton officiating.
Gunda Emelia Nelson, daughter of Iver and Ingabor Nelson, was born May 13, 1869 in Mitchell County, Iowa. She was baptized by the Rev. Clausen at an early age and was confirmed by the Rev. Olsen October 20, 1883.
She was educated in a country school south of St. Ansgar, and lived with her parents on the farm presently owned by Ervin Dieterich. They later moved to St. Ansgar to make their home.
On May 21, 1894 she was united in marriage to Sever O. Nelson by the Rev. Sigurd Olson. To this union were born four sons and three daughters; Ernest, Alvin, Stanley, Lloyd (deceased) Mrs. George (Selma) Trusty, Mrs. Harrie (Laurene) Hansen and Mrs. Truman (Olga) Ask.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson lived in St. Ansgar for 17 years, then moved to a farm northwest of St. Ansgar where they made their home for 27 years.
In 1940 they left their farm and came to St. Ansgar, making their home where they had formerly lived.
Mrs. Nelson was a devoted member of the First Lutheran church, a life member of the Ladies Aid, and at present was a member of the Martha Circle. A kind and loving mother, she never tired of doing deeds of love for her children. She suffered a stroke April 6 from which she never recovered. She died Friday, April 15 at the age of 90 years, 11 months and one day, the last of a family of eight.
Surviving are her six children, 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death April 22, 1941, also one son, Lloyd, one grandson and a great grandson.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Hamilton in charge of the committal services.
