Funeral services for Mary S. Nelson, 92, who died Wednesday October 27 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held Saturday, October 30 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Comnick officiating.
Miss Mary Serena Nelson was born January 17, 1873 on the farm north of St. Ansgar where she lived her entire life until her illness of recent years. She was the surviving daughter of Isabel and Nels H. Nelson, who in 1849 pioneered in the St. Ansgar area being members of the original "Clausen Colony."
Miss Nelson was preceded in death by six brothers, Edward, Howard, Gilbert, Nels, Andrew, and Iver; two sisters, Miss Belle Nelson and Mrs. Anna Bergum; a niece, Miss Ida Tollefson, who lived during her lifetime as a member of the Nelson family.
Her survivors known to many of the St. Ansgar community include: Mrs. Gladys Nelson of Kansas City, Mo.; E. Jay Nelson of Sun City, Ariz., Newell H. Nelson of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Iva Nelson Olson of Sun City, Ariz., J. Norman Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn.; also nieces and nephews residing in N.D., Oregon, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin and New York state.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Comnick in charge of the committal services.
