Funeral services were held for Virgil Webster Mosher, 78, of Riceville, Iowa, on Thursday, December 12, at the Congregational Church in Riceville. Rev. Dale and Rita Coakley and Rev. Lanny Carlson officiated at the services, with burial in Riverside Cemetery at Rockford, Iowa. Lindstrom Funeral Home of Riceville was in charge of arrangements.
Virgil Webster Mosher was born on May 13, 1907, at Rockford, Iowa, the youngest son of Arthur and Caroline Hickman Mosher. He attended rural school and graduated from Rockford High in 1926, also graduated the same year from Chicago Engineering Works. He farmed for a number of years before moving to town where he opened an electric shop, later moving to Riceville where he continued the electric business.
On October 17, 1927, he was united in marriage to Gordetta Warner of Marble Rock. He was a member of the First Congregational church of Rockford, later transferring to the Riceville church. He was a member of Sirius Lodge and a 32 degree Mason, Noble of El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, past worthy patron of O.E.S. of Iowa and Rainbow Dad in the Order of Rainbow for Girls, holding the Grand Cross of Colors.
Mosher was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl; one sister, Ruth Kiess; an infant granddaughter; and a daughter-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, Gordetta of Riceville; two sons, Willis of Omaha, Nebraska, and Harvey of Riceville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Genevieve Hartsock of Sun City, Arizona.
