Helen Starr 1900-1985

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 11, 1985 for Helen Starr, an Osage native, at Champion Funeral Home in Osage. The Rev. Charles Karey, of the First Baptist Church, officiated, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Miss Starr died on Sunday, December 8, 1985, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Osage to Herman and Clara (Smalley) Starr and attended Osage schools, graduating from Osage High School. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She received her masters degree from Columbia University in New York City and taught school briefly in Osage and Mason City. She later taught school in Juneau, Alaska for four years. For 29 years she was a school principal in Panama Canal Zone. She retired and moved to Mason City and then to Osage.

She was a kufe-long member of the Baptist Church.

Miss Starr is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sam (Lois) Woolworth and Carol Starr, both of Osage.
