Funeral services for John Gunsallus, 96, of Osage, are today, Wednesday, July 10, 1985, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. He died on Sunday, July 7, at the Stacyville Nursing Home. The Rev. Dennis Hanson will officiate and burial will be at the Toeterville Cemetery. The Osage American Legion Post 278 will perform military rites.
He was born on February 24, 1889 at Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Jane (Renner) Gunsallus. He moved as a child with his parents to Iowa.
He married Esther Brandt on April 6, 1926 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in the Mitchell County area.
He was a World War I veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth and Ellizabeth; two brothers, Jake and James; and one son, Orvis.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Avis) Wood of Rudd and Mrs. Robert (Marlys) Starry of McIntire; a son, Merlyn of McIntire; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
