HAUGEN, Arthur 1911-1985

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 20, 1985, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, for retired Osage area farmer, Arthur Haugen, 73, who died on Monday, June 17, 1985, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. The Rev. J. Nesheim officiated. Burial was in the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery of rural Osage.

Mr. Haugen was born on July 3, 1911, in rural Osage, Iowa, to O.K. and Lydia (Maakestad) Haugen. He attended rural schools in Cedar Township, Mtichell County and graduated from Osage High School in 1929.

On September 2, 1937, he and Dorothy Durant were united in marriage at Nora Springs. They farmed in rural Osage until 1968 and then moved into Osage.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Janice) Larson of Augusta, Georgia, and Marilyn Haugen of Alexandria, Virginia; three sons: Dr. David Haugen of Cheeney, Washington, James Haugen of Mesa, Arizona, and Bruce Haugen of Clarksville, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters: Mrs. Norma Lekwa of Ackley, Evelyn Oldenburg of Rock Rapids and Margaret Walter of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and one brother, Ernest of Osage.

Arthur Kermit Haugen was b​orn July 3, 1911 at Cedar​ township, Mitchell, Iowa to Ol​aus Knudsen Haugen and​ Jane Lydia Elizabeth M​aakestad; the youngest of their nine children. He was baptized at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and confirmed at same on May 24, 1925.

Married Dorothy Durant September 2, 1937 at Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa; five children.

Found in the 1915 - 1930 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:

1915: Arthur Hangen age 3.

1920: Olaus K Haugen 50, Lydia I Haugen 51, Gertia C Haugen 26, Norma H Haugen 19, Evelyn Haugen 17, Ernest R Haugen 15, Margaret Haugen 13, Arthur Haugen 8.

1925: Arns K Hangen 55, Lydia E Hangen 56, Gustard E Hangen 31, Ernest R Hangen 20, Margarete Hangen 18, Arther K Hangen 13.

1930: Olavus Haugen 60, Lydia J I Haugen 61, Gertie C Haugen 36, Ernest R Haugen 25, Arthur K Haugen 18.

1940: Arthur Haugen 28, Dorothy Haugen 24, David Haugen 1, James Haugen 6/12, Glen Bakkum 17.

Arthur and Dorothy later retired from farming and moved to Osage, Iowa and lived. He died June 17, 198​5 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
