#4:MATT BLUMER OF LEUTHOLD STORES DEAD
One of the owners of Big Chain Died Yesterday From Heart Trouble While Confined at Local Hospital With Broken Leg
Shortly after noon yesterday Matt Blumer of the Leuthold chain stores, passed away in the Naeve hospital in this city. His death, which was caused from heart trouble, came as a big shock to his friends. At the time he was 59 years of age.
Just a week ago Friday night Mr. Blumer had fallen on the ice, breaking his leg. He was taken to the Naeve hospital and has been confined there since. He was progressing very nicely from his injury. Despite the fact that he was resting and in bed, a heart attack came on very suddenly and he passed away.
Mr. Blumer was one of the owners of the Leuthold chain of clothing stores. He had been at Greene, Iowa, for thirty years in the store located at that place, and when that store burned, and was not rebuilt, he came here to be in the local Evans-Fonda store, one of the chain. He came last fall and has been making his home with his family in the O. A. Malmer home on Park Avenue while the Malmers are in California.
Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mildred, who lives here with her parents, and Lucille, who is principal of the schools at Hanlontown, Iowa; and a son who is an executive for the Curtis Publishing Company, with headquarters at Toledo, Ohio. His son arrived this noon.
Funeral arrangements had not been made at the time of going to press but in all probability burial will be made at Osage, Iowa.
