Richard Torney
Richard Torney born 1789 ( or 1791) Ireland. Married Jane McIlroy on February 23, 1822 at the Church of Ireland, Inch Parish, County Down, Northern Ireland.
Family emigrated to Canada and can be found in the 1861 census at Montcalm, Canada East, Canada. Episcopalian. Family then moved to Lodi, Columbia, Wisconsin and finally to Rock township, Mitchell, Iowa.
Richard died April 28, 1871 Rock Township, Mitchell, Iowa. Buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
Richard and Jane had at least 6 children:
(1.) Thomas Torney born January 17, 1822 at Ballygawley, Down, Northern Ireland; married Margaret McDowell in Canada; Children: William Edward, Mariah Jane, Richard Edwin, Anna, Emma Elizabeth, Samuel J, Isaiah Thomas; Thomas died April 17, 1899 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa.
(2.) Margaret Ann Torney born January 17, 1825 Ballygawley, Down, Northern Ireland, married David C. Allen 1844 at the Episcopal Church in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Children: Mary Simons born 1845 in Canada; Sarah born 30 Sep 1847 in Canada; Thomas born 14 Jan 1850 in Roden, Canada; Eliza born 1853 in New Hampshire, USA; Emmaline born 3 Feb 1856 in Keene, Cheshire, New Hampshire; William E. born 1858 in Wisconsin; Margaret born 1860 in Wisconsin; Frank S born 11 Nov 1862 in Baraboo, Sauk, Wisconsin; Frederick R. born 1870 in Okee, Columbia, Wisconsin; Margaret Ann Torney Allen died October 11, 1907 Canton, Lincoln, South Dakota.
(3.) Eliza Torney born about 1828 Ballygawley, County Down, Northern Ireland.
(4.) Richard T. Torney born August 1, 1833 Bas near Quebec, Canada. Married Elizabeth Law (Laur) February 6, 1862 at Quebec. Children: Edward James, Albert Richard, Hugh Alexander, William H., George Edward. Richard T. Torney died July 19, 1922 at Mitchell County, Iowa.
(5.) Edward Torney born May 1837 Bas, near Quebec, Canada. Married a Rhoda (Roda) 1870 at Canada; two children: Hattie M. and Henry Earl. Edward died March 31, 1912 at Mitchell County, Iowa.
(6.) Jane Mary Torney (or Mary Jane) born 1843 Bas near Quebec, Canada. Found her in the 1861 census at Montcalm, Canada East.
