Raymond E. Borchardt, age 93, of Mason City and formerly of Osage, died Monday, July 25, 2011, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1921 317th Street, south of Osage, with Pastor Byron Northwick and Pastor Edward Bard, Chaplain at Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Raymond was born November 16, 1917, on a farm near Grafton, Iowa, the son of Frank and Anna (Pahl) Borchardt. He attended schools in the Carpenter area. Raymond was united in marriage to Olive Johnson on February 25, 1941, at her parents’ farm near Osage. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked from 1963 to 1975 at J.E. Decker and Sons in Mason City. Raymond was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cedar Township, where he served as Sunday School superintendent and church treasurer for many years. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, visiting, eating ice cream, making bird houses, watching and feeding the birds, and being a farmer.

Raymond is survived by two sons, Paul (Paula) Borchardt of Amarillo, Texas, Dennis (Kathy) Borchardt of Mason City; one daughter, Barbara (Richard) Courte of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Leland (Betty) Borchardt of St. Ansgar; a sister, Ruby Borlang of Cedar Falls; and two sisters-in-law, Marion Borchardt of Concordia, Missouri, and Alice Johnson of Rudd. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Olive in 2007; a brother, Armond; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
