Melvin Roy Wilde, age 74, of Osage, died Monday, July 11, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1202 – 390th St., west of Osage, with Pastor Robin Ramos officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Melvin was born March 30, 1937, in rural Osage, the son of Roy and Rose (Wahl) Wilde. He graduated from Osage High School in 1956. On October 26, 1957 Melvin married Shirley Riehm, the daughter of OK and Laura Riehm of Carpenter, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He farmed west of Osage all of his life. Melvin was a lifelong member of St. John’s and also served as superintendent of the Sunday school. He loved farming, casinos and Saturday nights in Carpenter. His favorite thing was giving his grandkids rides in the tractor when they were younger.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Wilde of Osage; his mother, Rose Wilde of Osage; his eight children, David Wilde of Osage, Laurie (Steve) Smolik of Osage, Mike (Lori) Wilde of Osage, Kristy (Tony) Helfter of New Haven, Kelly (Jeff) Krause of Mason City, Wendy Stoneman of Osage, Stacy (Kelly) Anderson of Osage, and Kori (Troy) Havel of Osage; 16 grandchildren, Amber, Morgan and Dakota Wilde, Stephanie Smolik, Adam, Kiel and Ellen Helfter, Jamie, and Brandon Huisman, Cody Stoneman, Ashley and Zachary Anderson, Tyler, Collin, Kelsey and Nathan Havel; five great-grandchildren, Brecken, Olivia, Trace, Trystin and Landon Huisman; two sisters, Arliene (Gene) Kuntz of St. Ansgar, and Rosemary Wilde of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Beverly Levenhagen and Marilyn Harrington both of Mason City, Barbara (Bill) DeKruif of Garner and Marlys (Aaron) Thurnau of St. Ansgar; brothers-in-law, Glenn Riehm of Apache Junction, AZ, and Robert Riehm of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Roy Wilde; his grandparents, Henry and Elizabeth Wilde and George and Mary Wahl; a niece Deborah Voight, brothers-in-law Elwin Levenhagen and Bill Harrington; and in-laws, OK and Laura Riehm. Champion – Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, (641)732-3706.
