Anton Olsen Fossey was born in Brandvold, Solor, Hedmark county, Norway, on January 28, 1851, and died on Wednesday, December 18, 1910.
He came to America in 1866, and was naturalized a United States citizen while in Mitchell County, on March 9, 1875. Anton became a member of the Lutheran Church in either St. Ansgar or Mona, on November 29, 1868, at age 17.
On December 7, 1882, Anton married Olivia I. Stenerud Christiansen at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. They were married by the Reverend John Olson. Anton and Olivia had nine children, including: Clara Otildia, Otto Oliver, Hannah Louisa, Charles P., Edward Lewis, Alfred Oswald, Mense Palmer, Eva Georgette, and George Ernest.
Survived by his nine children; two brothers, Oliver Fossey, of Velva, North Dakota, and Charles Fossey, of Moorhead, Minnesota; three sisters, Mrs. Theo. Thompson, of Mona,Iowa, Mrs. E. B. Qualley, of Winnipeg, Canada, and Mrs. O. A. Dahl of Barlow, and his aged mother residing with her daughter, Mrs. Dahl.
Anton died of stomach cancer on December 18, 1910, in Mitchell County, Iowa. The funeral was held at the Mona church and interment was made December 22 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
His tombstone spells his name as "Fossay".
