Marilyn Jean (Hoerter) Hogan, 74, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Austin Medical Center after a year-long battle with Alpha 1 lung disease.
Marilyn was born July 25, 1936, in Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa, to Edward and Wilhelmina (Meyer) Hoerter. She was an only child. She attended Queen of Angels grade school and graduated from St. Augustine High School in June 1954. On January 21, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, John Hogan in New York. The couple lived in Austin where Marilyn was a legal secretary for the Bang, Nierengarten and Hoversten, a secretary to Dr. B.J. Cronwell for many years and secretary at Queen of Angels Rectory. Marilyn also worked at Bushaw Bakery.
John and Marilyn had five children, Chris, Kathy, Patrick, Timothy and Sheila. They lost Timothy on Nov. 29, 1965, and it was devastating to them. Marilyn then lost her true love, her husband, John, on October 4, 1995. Marilyn then met John Lysne, and they were good companions. They traveled, played cards, danced and enjoyed each other’s company. Marilyn enjoyed her card club, dog races, traveling to Ireland, knitting, dancing, gambling, but her most important activity was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren.
Marilyn was a constant in our family, and she will be deeply missed. May the road rise up to meet you, Mom.
