William Marshall was born on July 21, 1936, in Osage, the son of George H. and Ida (Jensen) Marshall. He attended and graduated from Nora Springs High School. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Kinross Air Force Base where he gained many lifelong friends. While in the Air Force Bill was married to the love of his life, Linda L. Gildner, on March 10, 1957; this union would be blessed with three children. In 1959 Bill was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.
In 1959 Bill returned to Nora Springs and began farming the land that had been in his family for four generations. Bill's pride for the farm was easily shown through his meticulous upkeep of his land.
Always having been known as a kid at heart, Bill loved fast cars and anything painted John Deere Green. He had a passion for family heirlooms and enjoyed playing cards (Gin Rummy and Hearts being his favorites), as well as traveling with his family. He especially enjoyed their travels across Europe.
Bill cherished the times he spent with his family and friends. He loved sharing a good story or joke and delighted in spending time with his three grandchildren.
He was a member of the American Legion H.D.S. Post No. 449 of Nora Springs as well as St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City.
Those grateful in sharing in Bill's life are his wife, Linda, of Mason City; his three children, Becky Marshall, Mason City, Mark Marshall, Stratford, and Mindy Marshall and her husband, Chuck Boyd, Boscobel, Wis.; grandchildren, Jordan Marshall, Cedar Falls, Mason Marshall, Stanhope, and Lauren Maertens, Clear Lake; his siblings, Howard Marshall, Nora Springs, and Dawn Ueker, Nora Springs; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
