Harold Sponheim
Funeral services for Harold Sponheim of rural Osage were held Friday, January 4 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church with the Reverend Paul Metzger officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. Mr. Sponheim, 65 died at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 1, 1985.
Harold Eugene Sponheim, son of Arthur and Gertie Sponheim, was born August 16, 1919. He attended the Rock No. 7 rural school and graduated from Plymouth High School. He farmed with his father until he was drafted into military service in April 1941. He received his basic training at Camp Clairborn, Louisianna and Fort Dix, New Jersey. His service during World War II in Europe with the 34th Red Bull Division until 1945 was in Ireland, North Africa and Italy. Afterwards, he resumed farming.
On December 14, 1957 he was united in marriage to Margaret Field and they lived in the Osage area.
Mr. Sponheim was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church. There, he actively participated in various offices and committees. He also served as both president and secretary of the Osage Co-op Oil Company's board of directors.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Osage; two daughters, Ingrid Sponheim of Milbank, South Dakota and Elizabeth Sponheim of Ames; a son, Harold of Osage; his mother, Gertie of Osage; a sister, Ruth Sponheim of Fort Dodge; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; and two sisters, Gertrude Hugi and Dorothe Sponheim.
