BELLEVUE, NEBRASKA -- Alice Katherine (Pitzen) Pospeschil, 90, died in the home of her daughter, Susan Amy Katherine (Pospeschil) Olson-Mandler and son-in-law, Stanley Allen Mandler, in Bellevue, Nebraska, with whom she lived for the past three years.
Alice was born on Sept. 25, 1913, in Stacyville, Iowa, to Wm. and Amy (Kinney) Pitzen. She attended Visitation Catholic School, Stacyville, attended St. Catherine College, St. Paul, Minnesota, (until the death of her father), where she met her husband, Carl Joseph Pospeschil (on birth certificate Carl Fred Pospischil), Janesville, Wisconsin, who was attending St. Thomas University in Minnesota; they married in Stacyville, Iowa, on Jan. 23, 1933. Alice worked as a housewife and mother and helped with detail and finish work on the homes Carl built.
After Carl's death on Aug. 30, 1955, Alice sold real estate for the D&S Heck Agency, and worked at the Janesville Medical Center and in the Foreign Sales Division of The Parker Pen Company. In 1973 she moved to Omaha, NE, and later Bellevue, Nebraska, to be near her children.
Alice is also survived by a son, Frederick Wm. and his wife, Rebecca A. (Caldwell) Pospeschil of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; a sister, Helen Sophia (Mrs. James W.) Reynolds of Stacyville, Iowa; a nephew, William Preston Reynolds of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren: Sarah Katherine Olson of Omaha, Nrbraska, Dr. Peter David-Paul and his wife, Sarah Christie-Brown of London, UK, Dr. Stephen Robert Mandler of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Lee and his wife, Jody Kay (Wadle) Pospeschil of Macomb, Illinois, and Sgt. James Curtis Pospeschil, USAF; great-grandchildren: Heidi Rebecca and Holly Rose Mandler of Portland, Oregon, and Ashley Catherine Pospeschil of Macomb, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wm. and Amy (Kinney) Pitzen; her husband, Carl Pospeschil; and her in-laws, Anna and Fred "Fritz" Pospeschil.
Alice chose not to have a funeral, though her life will be celebrated during an Indian puja and private gatherings near the date of her birth. Ashes will be interred in the Visitation Catholic Church Cemetery, Stacyville, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Alegent Hospice, Omaha, Nebraska, and Fontenelle Forest Nature Center, Bellevue, Nebraska.
