John Clifton Harlis 1908-1949

Osage – Word arrived in Osage Wednesday of the death of a former resident, John C. Harlis, 40, at a Princeton, Minn., hospital. He had been ailing for two years with a liver and blood disease.

He was born in Osage to John and Amanda (Christiansen) Harlis. He graduated from Osage high school and University of Iowa, Iowa City. He was employed at Oliver Corp., Charles City, then as an accountant at General Mills at Minneapolis.

He leaves his wife, the former Celeste Havie of Charles City, residing at Princeton; his mother, at Charles City; preceding him in death was his father.

FORMER IOWAN IS DEAD IN MINNESOTA

Charles City, Ia. – Funeral services for John Clifton Harlis, 41, who died at 3 a.m. Wednesday at Princeton, Minn., following a two month illness were incomplete.

He was the son of Mrs. Amanda Harlis of Charles City. He was born January 3, 1908 at Osage, and was baptized at the Osage Congregational church. He was graduated from high school in 1925 and attended University of Iowa one year.

In August 1935, he married Celeste Havey. He worked for General Mills in Minneapolis, Minn., and for the last three years had owned and operated the Harlis grocery at Princeton.

His father died March 22, 1949. He is survived by his wife and mother.
