Irene Hanke, age 86, of Osage, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Irene was born January 9, 1925, at Mona, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Frances (Paulus) Perzynski. Irene graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1944, she then attended the Frances Nystrom Beauty School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Irene was united in marriage to John Hanke on June 11, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. They farmed in the Stacyville – Meyer area. John died in 1989 and then Irene moved to Osage in 1993. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Mother’s Society in Meyer. Irene enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, antiquing, cooking and especially spending time with her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. and a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Irene is survived by her children, Richard (Joyce) Hanke of Lakeville, Minnesota, Robert (Rita) Hanke of Little Cedar, Janet (Calvin) Niess of Little Cedar, Randy (Mary) Hanke of Stacyville, Patricia (Patrick) Durkin of Shakopee, Minnesota, MaryAnn (Harold) Berg of Ahsahka, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; her son Ronald in 1966; an infant son, Howard; two sisters, Jeanette Johnson and Lydia Penney; two brothers, Edward and Theodore Perzynski.
