ADAMS, Minn. - Edith May Starry, 96, formerly of the McIntire and Riceville, Iowa, area, died Saturday (Sept. 1, 2001) at Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minn., where she had resided for about 10 months.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home, 615 N. Broadway, LeRoy, Minn., with the Rev. Mike Carry officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery, McIntire, Iowa.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home, LeRoy, and until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Edith was born June 27, 1905, in Crawfordville, Iowa, to William Harvey VanSyoc and Sarah Emma Woodruff. She was baptized in the Riceville Methodist Church and attended Riceville area schools.

On Dec. 8, 1923, she was united in marriage to Myron Starry in Yorkville, Ill., and together they farmed and later ran the McIntire Shopping Center through the 1960s.

Edith was a member of the Jolly Dozen, joining in 1929. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and the McIntire United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and enjoyed writing letters, working on scrapbooks and quilting.

She is survived by by daughters, Maxine (Mrs. Floyd) DeVries of Austin, Bernice (Mrs. Clyde) Walker of Charles City and Mary (Mrs. Roger) Hultman of Austin; sons, Robert Starry and his wife, Marlys, of McIntire, Dennis Starry and his wife, Theresa, of Austin and Donald Starry and his wife, Beverlee, of Austin; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son; three brothers, Sam, John and Orville; and one sister, Marie.

Interment: Wayne Cemetery in McIntire.
