WATERLOO, IOWA — John D. "Jack" Auringer, 81, of Waterloo, died Saturday, October 30, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, of complications from a spinal cord injury.

He was born on October 22, 1929, in Riceville, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Doris Kimble Auringer. He married Beverly Myers on Nov. 26, 1951. She died in March 1959. He married Barbara Barlow on April 28, 1977, in Waterloo.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He worked in construction and was a part-time tree trimmer. He worked at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo for 33 years and at Covenant Medical Center. He delivered school buses for School Bus Sales Co. in Waterloo after retirement.

Survived by: his wife, Barbara; two sons, Steven (Kathy) of Evansdale and Dave (Marti) of Prior Lake, Minn.; three daughters, LeeAnne Kramer of Waterloo, Kathi Eteaki of Euless, Texas, and Jacki (Albert) Uribe of Houston; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Darin) Duffy, Heather (Russell) Auringer Dolan, Justin "J.D." Auringer, Holly Auringer, Heidi Auringer, Jake (Carissa) Uribe, Wes Uribe and Dani Uribe; and a great-grandson, Karter Steven Duffy.

Preceded in death by: his first wife, Beverly, and daughter Cindy, who both died in an auto accident in March 1959.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Sullivan Brothers VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Jack loved the outdoors, especially camping and gardening. He enjoyed watching and cheering on his grandchildren in their sports endeavors.
