K. H. Klemesrud

Again has Death, the grim reaper, cut down one of our dear ones. At this time the call came to a father, friend, neighbor and member of our church. "Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live."

Knut H. Klemesrud was born in Hedalen, Valders, Norway, on October 20, 1934. At an early age his parents brought him into fellowship with our Savior through holy baptism and also attended to his instruction in the principles of the Christian religion.

The years of his childhood and youth were spent in his native home. On October 11, 1858, he entered into the holy state of matrimony with Miss Liv Grove, of his native county.

Having heard of the "Land of Opportunities" and hoping to better their temporal circumstances, they set sail for this country and landed on the sores of America in July 1866. They located temporarily in Dane County Wisconsin.

Later they came to Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, where he bought a piece of land, by the blessing of God built himself a fine home, and where he continued to live until the time of his death.

During his sojourn in this country his time has been taken up with farming and carpenter work.

In his wedlock eight children were born. The only relatives surviving him are the following children: Mrs. C. J. Carlson, Harold, Herman, Severt, all of this locality; and Martin, of Grand Forks, North Dakota. There are also twenty-seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The departed has always been a member of the Lutheran church and an interested and active member of the local congregation since he came to this locality. He is also one of the builders of our church edifice. He has held many offices of trust in our congregation and was especially interested in the Christian education of the children. This has not only been proved by giving his own children such an instruction, but also by being superintendent of our Sunday school in earlier days.

The departed has been a man of Herculean strength, and has until recently enjoyed good health. Those of his children, however, who have been near and with kind hands have taken care of him, have noticed how his strength has been vanishing and his life gradually ebbing away. He died, as we hope, according to his confession, in the Lord, May 21, 1924. The cause of his death was the usual infirmities of old age.

Funeral services were conducted by Reverend O. C. Myhre, May 23 and the remains were laid to rest in the Rock Creek Cemetery until the morning of resurrection.
