Funeral services held for
Oswald William Rogers
Funeral Services were held Monday, January 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage for Oswald William Rogers, age 84, who passed away Wednesday, January 20, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home. He had been a resident there for 3½ years.
Oswald Rogers was born on January 17, 1898 in Mitchell County. He was the oldest child of William and Bertha Rogers who farmed southwest of Osage. Ozzie had two brothers and three sisters. At present his brother Paul lives in Cedar Rapids and his sister, Alda lives in Riceville.
Ozzie was active for many years in the Knights of Columbus, and he was president of the Farm Bureau for several years. He farmed for forty years, raising both grain and feeder cattle. Ozzie was very active in church work and also enjoyed playing cards.
He was married in 1921 to Kathryn O'Conner who died in 1960. They had two sons, Hilbert and Eugene. Hilbert farms on the home farm in Orchard. Gene died in 1978.
Ozzie married Leona Schwab in 1962. Ozzie's stepchildren include Andrew Schwab, North Andover, Massachusettes; Shirley DeVore, Enterprise, Alabama; Charles Schwab, Osage, and Thomas Schwab, Nora Springs.
Ozzie has four grandchildren, Richard Rogers, Monte Rogers, Terri Halbach and Kathy Orsland. He also has ten step grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
