There will be no visitation as it was Bill's last request that his body be cremated.

William F. Adams was born Jan. 28, 1933, in rural Osage, Mitchell County, a son of Charles Anton and Sadie (Pfliger) Adams and died Sunday (May 27, 2001) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City of cancer.

He received his education in the rural Mitchell County Schools and as a young man he was employed by Foth Plumbing and Heating in Osage where he learned that trade.

On Dec. 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Joan Gosselin at the Little Cedar Methodist Church near Osage. In 1958 the family moved to Greene where he was employed by Max Heidenwirth for a short time before going out on his own as a plumber, furnace installer and air conditioning repairman.

In 1976 the family moved to Lineville and later North English where he became engaged in dairy farming and also owned the Chatterbox Café and Laundromat both in North English. During this time he was also engaged in the plumbing business.

In 1993 the family returned to the Greene area where he was employed by Gil White Plumbing and Heating in Charles City until his health forced him to retire in 1996.

Bill will be remembered for his love of country music and playing the guitar, especially in those special "jam sessions" with his friends in the area. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, camping and just being outside. He enjoyed his dogs and training horses to ride.

He was baptized a member of the United Methodist Church in Little Cedar, served as a trustee of the United Methodist Church in North English and was currently a member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock. He was a member of the Rotary Club in North English and a former scoutmaster.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his loving wife, Joan, of Greene; five sons and their spouses, Rick (Mary) Adams, of Hubbard, Mike (Toyla) Adams, of Springfield, Mo., Mark (Penny) Adams, of Charles City, Tom (Carrie) Adams, of Loveland, Colo., and Joel (Melissa) Adams, of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Vivian Orman, of Mason City, Jenevieve Walters, of Osage, Geraldine Johnson, of Waterloo, and Mildred Valasek, of Osage; two brothers, Charles Adams, of Arjo, Ariz., and Richard Adams, of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Betty Brooking.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the William F. Adams Memorial Fund in care of the family.
