Rites at Riceville
for Pioneer GrocerRICEVILLE, IOWA — Funeral services were held Monday at the home for Charles E. Adams, 82, a grocer at Riceville for 53 years, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Adams was born in Clayton County, Iowa, on October 23, 1866, and came to Riceville when a young man, working as a buttermaker for his father, John Adams, in the Riceville community.
Mr. and Mrs. Adams observed their 61st wedding anniversary last November.
Mr. Adams won national recognition as a buttermaker at Pearl City, Illinois, after his marriage to Lizzie Miller on November 30, 1887. At the world's fair at Chicago in 1893 he won the national buttermaking contest.
Surviving are the widow and two children, Leo of Berkeley, California, and Mrs. Louis Krall of Riceville.
