Memorial services for A/1c Darrell D. Larson, 21, who lost his life in a swimming accident at Tarague Beach, Guam, March 20 will be held at the First Lutheran church here Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. O.A. Langehough officiating.

Darrell Duane Larson was born on a farm near Osage September 25, 1934, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Larson. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Langehough in the First Lutheran church here.

A/1c Larson attended schools near McIntire and Charles City and finished his grade school in St. Ansgar when his parents moved here in 1946. He attended St. Ansgar high school for two years and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, leaving for duty September 27, 1951.

He received most of his Air Force training at Randolph Field, Texas, Davis Monthan Base in Arizona and Lowry AFB, Denver, Colorado, where he specialized in electronics, radar, and turret gunnery.

He was assigned to Travis Air Force Base in California, shortly before he left for Guam in January of 1955.

His four year enlistment would have been completed in September 1955.

Darrell met his death by drowning while attempting to save a buddy in trouble swimming off Tarague Beach, Guam, March 20. A tidal wave was given as the cause of the disaster, as Darrell was a strong swimmer.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Larson of Waterloo, two brothers, Darwin, 18, a senior at East High there, Dale, 13, an eighth grade student at KcKinstry school and a sister, Dorothy, age nine, a third grade pupil at Hawthorne school; also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Larson of St. Ansgar and Mr. Erv Weldin of Mitchell, and many other relatives and friends.
