John Bettis Bailey was born April 5, 1878 near Bailey. He was the son of John Austen and Elisa Bettis Bailey. He married Maud McClain February 27, 1902 at the Methodist parsonage at Osage. They farmed until 1914 when they moved to McIntire. He was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad and farmed.

He is survived by his wife Maud, 1 brother, Earl, Glendive, Montana; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 1 son Clair Austen, and 1 grandson.

John Bailey passed away May 28, 1969 at the Riceville Nursing Home at the age of 91 years, nine months, and 23 days.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31, at the McIntire Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Hjelmaas in charge. Pianist was Mrs. Everett Wherry Jr., while vocalists were Mrs. Viva Newhouse and Mrs. Lois Kellogg. Casket bearers included Perry Carter, Elmo Griffin, Arthur Kesten, Roy Richardson, Titus Sergent and Robert Timmerman. Interment was in Wayne Cemetery in McIntire.

The Martz-Hutchins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
