Gustav Knaak was born June 19th, 1859, on a farm near Leeds, Wisconsin and at that place he spent his early boyhood days. In the spring of 1869 at the age of 10 years, he moved with his parents to Iowa, and settled in Newburg township. After residing at this place but a short time the family moved to the farm west of St. Ansgar, which has been his residing place most of the time since with the exception of four years that he spent operating a feed mill at Newburg.
On March 26, 1895, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Gena Johnson of Northwood, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Fernie and Arthur.
After a lingering illness of several weeks of organic heart disease, his death was hastened by a paralytic stroke. He was relieved of his suffering on May 25, 1924 at the age of 64 years, 14 months and 6 days.
He leaves to mourn his death, besides his wife and two sons, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sever Halverson, of Carpenter, two sisters, Tillie, of St. Ansgar, and Mrs. Amanda Buehrer, of South Dakota.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church and interment was in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery.
