Item #1:
Mrs. Gena Knaak was born in Skjold, Prestejeld, Norway, May 1, 1857, died at her home in St. Ansgar, Iowa, June 19th, 1927.
Gena Flatness came to America in the year of 1882, locating at St. Ansgar.
In 1886 she was united in marriage to Julius Johnson of Northwood, Iowa, who preceded her in death. This union was blessed with one daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Halverson, of Carpenter, Iowa.
In 1894 she was married to Gustave Knaak and came to St. Ansgar where she lived until the time of her death. Mr. Knaak passed away several years ago. This union was blessed with two sons, Fernie of St. Ansgar and Arthur of Waterloo.
She enjoyed perfect health until last April when she was taken sick and had been failing since. On Friday, June 17th, she was taken seriously ill with heart trouble and other complications.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her children, three grandchildren, Gladys, Stanford and Doroth Halverson of Carpenter, Iowa; four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Ella Johnson of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Martin Flatness of Gordonsville, Minn., Mrs. Chris Skjeveland of Albert Lea, Minn., Mrs. Harry Oleson of Meltonvile, Iowa, Mrs. Christina Nejord of Glenville, Minn., Rasmus Flatness of Northwood, Iowa and Lars Flatness of Minneapolis, Minn. One brother and one sister preceded her in death.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all those who so kindly extended their sympathy in our hour of bereavement. We also wish to thank those who sent the beautiful flowers.

Mrs. Gena Knaak, who had been ill only a few days, passed away suddenly at her home here Sunday morning at 10:15. The funeral will be held at the N.L. church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Knaak was 70 years old.
