Illness fatal to Mrs. Joe Niess
Funeral services for a Stacyville woman, Mrs. Joseph Niess, 86, who died July 29 at the Stacyville Rest Home, were held Friday. The Reverend Thomas Carpender, pastor of Meyer Sacred Heart Church, was in charge of the funeral mass there, and burial was in the Church cemetary. Hatten and Son Funeral Home made the arrangements.
Celia Adams was born at Meyer, April 11, 1895, the daughter of Mathias and Christina Hackenmiller Adams. Joseph A. Niess and Celia Adams were united in marriage October 17, 1917. They spent two years in Edgar, Wisconsin and the remainder of their years was spent in the Meyer-Stacyville areas.
Mrs. Niess was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, the Rosary Society and the Christian Mothers.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph, also a resident of the Stacyville Rest Home; three sons, Gus and Matt of rural Osage and Joseph Jr., of Donaldsonville, LA; seven daughters, Sister Catherine of Midlothian, Illinois, Mrs. Bill Tray (Margaret) of Woodland Park, Colorado, Mrs. Floyd Guy (Celia) of Rochester, Mrs. Bill Anderson (Mary) of Mason City, Mrs. Helen Bena and Mrs. W. J. Schrandt (Rita) of Stacyville, and Mrs. Deo Koenigs (Joan) of Meyer; 65 grandchildren; one brother, Tony Adams of Edgar, Wisconsin; and one sister, Sister Cora of Dubuque.
Preceding her in death were one son, Edmund; her parents; two sisters, five brothers and two grandchildren.
