Mrs. Mary Doane,
Formerly of Little
Cedar, Died Thurs.Mrs. Mary Doane died at the state hospital at Independence on July 16, [1936]. The body was brought to Little Cedar, where funeral services were held Sunday, with interment in the nearby cemetery.
Obituary:
On January 15, 1862, while the cannons of the Civil War were booming upon the wide spread battlefields and the bugles were sounding their charges and retreats, Mary was born into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Myrick, at LeRoy, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
When about 16 years of age she removed with her parents to Little Cedar, Iowa and located upon the present Myrick homestead. She lived a normal life in attendance at the district school and in participating in the social life of the community.
On January 17, 1908, she became the wife of Lou Doane and left with her husband at once for Bellingham, Washington, where they made their home for a short time before returning to Mitchell County, where they located for a time on a farm near Brownville and later moved into that village, where they lived for some time while Mr. Doane operated a mill which he had purchased.
When Mr. Doane's health began to fail, they bought a home in Little Cedar and removed there, where they continued to reside until the death of Mr. Doane on September 28, 1926.
After the death of her husband Mrs. Doane went to make her home with her brother and sister on the old farm just across the road from her final resting place.
In March of this year, her failing health made in necessary that she be taken to the state hospital at Independence, and it was there that she died at the ripe age of 74** years, 6 months and 2 days.
Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
One brother, Charles of Yakima, Washington, together with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and acquaintances still survive to mourn her passing.

**The age and dates do not add up properly. She may have been born in 1862, although her tombstone says 1864.

#5:MARY MYRICK DOANE -- Am guessing the January 1864 is the best guess for a birth date.
Married Lou Myron Doane who was born April 16, 1866 and died September 28, 1926. He was a brother to the Thornton Doane buried in the same cemetery. In the 1900 Census he was living with his brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Elsie Doane in Little Cedar and the Census has his BD as April 1866.
