RICEVILLE — Douglas Edwin Shoger, 48, of Riceville, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2007) following a short but hard-fought battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville with the Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be at Osage Cemetery in Osage.

Friends may join the family from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Lindstrom Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Doug, son of Stanley and Norma (Eastman) Shoger, was born on Nov. 10, 1958, in Albert Lea, Minn. Doug graduated from Riceville High School in 1977. Following high school, Doug took over the family dairy and hog farm after his father passed away in 1984.

The dairy barn burnt down in 1987 and from then until present he was running a crop farm. During this time, he was also employed by Rochester Cartage Inc. where he drove semi. Doug purchased his first semi in the early 1990s. In 2006, Doug switched from trucking to raising hogs once again. He built his own hog facility and also managed a few other barns for Reicksview Farms up until the time of his illness.

On July 23, 1999, Doug was united in marriage to Theresa (Williams) Shoger in Cresco. To this union three beautiful children were born: Alex, Madison and Peyton. Doug's three children and his wife were the highlight of his life. He was a very dedicated father and husband.

Doug was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching a race when he could find time. He loved sharing his interest of farming and tractors with his son, Alex, and the harvest season was his favorite time of the year. Doug's favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He was a quiet man with a huge heart and the things he did for everyone else will always be remembered. His presence will be greatly missed but his memory never forgotten.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Theresa of Riceville; his son Alex; two daughters, Madison and Peyton; mother, Norma Shoger, Riceville; grandmother, Mildred Eastman, Riceville; brother, Steven (Carolyn) Shoger, Nora Springs; and children, Bethany and Samantha; sister, Roxanne (Robert) Dvorak, Spring Valley, Minn., and children, Mitchell (Melinda), Jordan and Marshall (Katie); sister, Suzanne (Rick) Graves, Huxley, and children, Taylor, Jenna and Kameron; brother, Nathan (Tammi) Shoger, of Laurel Hill, N.C., and children Nick (Kristin), Amber and Heather; his parents-in-law, Robert (Ann) Williams, Osage; brother-in-law, Matt (Valerie) Williams of Osage, and children Emma, Zachary and Nolan; brother-in-law, Brian (special friend Kristy), Des Moines; sister-in-law, Joan (Steve) Jacobs of Osage; and children, Trey, Cory, Allison and Rachael; sister-in-law, Amy (Rob) Ring, Osage, and children Isaac, Caleb and Brianna, as well as many great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley; his paternal grandparents, Clifford and Lulu Shoger; and his maternal grandfather, Dale Eastman.
