Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, Monday, March 21, 1955, at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Helen Johnson with the Rev. O.A. Langehough in charge of the services. Burial was at the First Lutheran cemetery at St. Ansgar.
Mrs. Helen Mathilda Halvorson Johnson, daughter of Andrew and Lucina Halvorson, was born September 4, 1874 at St. Ansgar, Iowa, and passed away March 18, 1955 at the Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City, Iowa, at the age of 80 years,6 months, and 14 days.
She was baptized October 25, 1874 at First Lutheran church by Pastor O. Nelson, and was confirmed October 6, 1889 in the same church by Pastor Johan Olsen. On July 1, 1897, she was united in marriage to George J. Johnson. To this union four children were born: Selmer, with whom she made her home, south of St. Ansgar; Alvin, farming near Orchard; and Kenneth, at home. One son, Morris, preceded his mother in death in 1935.
Besides her husband and sons she leaves to mourn her passing three grandchildren and four sisters; Clara, Ida (Mrs. Carl Dahl) of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Maria Dahl of Mason City, and Lorene (Mrs. Frank Spender) of Boontown, New Jersey; and five brothers; George, Martin, Clarence, Elmer and Irvin, all of St. Ansgar. Two brothers, Henry and Albert, and her parents preceded her in death.
