Funeral services for Darrell Johnson were held Thursday afternoon March 26, 1959 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church near Carpenter, Iowa and interment at First Lutheran Cemetery at St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Relatives attended from Fargo, Nome, and Enderlin, North Dakota, Ringstead, Iowa, Chester, Riceville, LeRoy, Austin, Mpls., Kensett and Iowa Falls.

Darrell Arvin Johnson was born May 8, 1940, in Austin, Minnesota. He was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Johnson of Otranto, Iowa. He passed away at the Worrall Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, March 23, 1959.

The life's story of Darrell Johnson was a revelation of God's infinite love and mercy bestowed upon his chosen ones. It is punctuated with the finest attributes any young Christian could hope to acquire. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith June 23, 1940 and confirmed at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church May 30, 1954, by the Rev. Olaf Langehough. To his church he remained faithful to the end having been a regular church, Luther League, choir and Lenten service attendant.

Darrell entered school at the Otranto consolidated school in the fall of 1946 and in 1955 enrolled in the Carpenter consolidated High School. He was a member of this year's graduating class. During his school days he took an active part in vocal and dramatic activities in both schools. Until the present time he was president of the Otranto Jerseys 4-H Club, vice president of the Carpenter Senior Class, member of this year's graduating class of the senior choir at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, vice president of the Deer Creek Luther League.

He leaves to mourn his untimely passing his parents and brother Dean, two sisters, Sharon and Marcia, his maternal grandfather, Nels Robertson of Lyle, Minnesoto; and his sweetheart, Shirley Gordon; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, his loyal classmates, and a host of friends. An infant brother, Dennis, preceded him in death in 1947. By the passing of Darrell Johnson, his family, school mates, the community of which he made himself so much a part has lost a true christian, and inspiring personality. A faithful comrade and a well rounded young man whose character was portrayed in action. Service was the center of his life, yet it was service implicit. His constant quest for knowledge and its dissemination and his willingness to work beyond his physical capacity have testified to this service. Mentally he fought for the right with an unconquerable spirit and not the least of his attributes was a sense of humor which enabled him to laugh at difficulities. His personality and sincerity made both young and old respect and love him. This type of life was an inspiration and his death cannot end its effect on every one of his acquaintance.
