Mrs. Laura Manchester Dead

Sweet Christian Character Passed Away at I.H. Morse Home Early Monday Morning

One of the choicest women whom Osage has ever claimed as a citizen, Mrs. Laura Manchester, passed away Monday morning at 3 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Morse. She was one of those fine spirited women who look with charity on the mistakes of other and always seek to emphazize their good points. Of a deeply religious nature, her influence was a strong factor in her privilege of knowing her. All her life she had been a faithful member of the Baptist church, loyal to all phases of the work of the church. One of her strong interests was that of the work of the Women's Missionary society and her keen, bright mind made her a valuable helper on its programs. She was also devoted to the work of the W.C.T.U.

Mrs. Manchester was born on August 7, 1838,at East Pitkin, N.Y. At the age of sixteen she was married to E. J. Manchester and came with him to Mendota, Illinois. There their only child, a boy, was born to them, but lived only a few years.

In 1912 they came to Osage to make their home. A year later Mr. Manchester passed away and since then she has made her home with his cousin, I. H. Morse, and wife, who have untiring in their devotion to her every need.

For the past three months she has been sick with paralysis, and death came Monday morning as a blessed release. Her nearest living relatives are two nieces, Mrs. E.J. Cobb of Minneapolis and Mrs. S. D. Cecil of St. Paul.

The funeral was held yesterday morning at the Baptist church, the service being conducted by her pastor, Dr. A. S. Cross. Interment was in the local cemetery.
