taken by deathLast rites for a Riceville man, Orval Barnes, 75, were held on February 11, at the United Methodist Church there. Mr. Barnes died at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage February 8, 1980. The Rev. Lanny Carlson, pastor, was in charge of the services and arrangements were by Conway Funeral Home. Burial was in the Wayne cemetery near McIntire.
John Orval Barnes was horn in New Providence, May 24, 1904, the son of Robert Floyd and Louisa Cockerham Barnes. As a child he moved to North Carolina with his parents and when he was seven years old he accompanied his mother to the Bailey area, attending school there and in Mclntire.
Lelah Eastean and Mr. Barnes were married May 4, 1935, farming at Adams and Mason City until 1964. Riceville has been their home since 1965. He was employed as a machinist for Mosher Doors and was also self-employed as a carpenter.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife Lelah, three nieces and one nephew.
