Laughlin rites held Saturday
Funeral rites were held Saturday at the First Congregational church in Charles City for a native Osage man, Robert W. Laughlin, 59, who died of cancer on February 14. He had been ill several weeks and died at the Charles City hospital. Military rites were held at Oak Hill cemetery in Parkersburg, with the VFW conducting the rites in a body.
Robert Waldo Laughlin was born in Osage on January 28, 1921, the son of Clarence (Bud) and Margaret (Bailey) Laughlin. He graduated from Osage High School in 1940. He entered the army and served in Europe in World War II, and served with the military police in Vienna, Austria, one year following the end of the war.
Harriett Thorne and Robert Laughlin were married Oct. 16, 1964, in Yankton, S. D. They spent their remarried life in Charles City and he was employed as a truck driver. He was a past commander of VFW Post 3914 and was past grand commander of the Military Order of Cooties. At the present time he was judge advocate of five states in the Cooties. He also belonged to the Congregational church, the Elks, and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife Harriett; one step-son, Greg Jaquis of Liberal, Kansas.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Gayle Maudlin (Barbara) of Webster City, Mrs. Raymond Raincrow (Janice) of Norman, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Larry Brookman (Paulette) of Reinbeck; 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Stewart Laughlin of Springfield, Oregon, Glenn of Marshalltown, Richard of Clinton, Maryland, and Kenneth of Virginia, Minnesota; four sisters, Clarice St. Clair of Marshalltown, Daisy Ault of Waterloo, Mrs. Walter Cowan (Mary) of Des Moines, and Margaret Bell of Washington state; nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, William, who lost his life while serving his country in Korea, and a step-son, Ronald Jaquis, who also died in service.
