VAN CAMP - Mrs. Carrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cummings, of Mitchell on Wednesday, December 5th, 1883, at the age of 27 years, 1 month and 29 days.
Mrs. Van Camp, born in Mitchell and always a member of the community, was universally known and held in high esteem by all. Her death comes as a great sorrow to her very many friends, and as a crushing blow to her parents and kindred, and especially to him, whose young married life of scarce one year is so suddenly and unexpectedly, robbed of the brightness and beauty.
Mrs. Van Camp's illness was not considered dangerous, until the Sunday before her death, when she seemed to understand her situation, even before, being told, and in a noble Christian spirit expressed her resignation to God's will, and called her relatives to her bedside and one by one told them her last wishes and loving counsels, and quietly and peacefully passed away. She had been baptized by the writer about three years before, and becoming a member of the Free Baptist church, has since been a devoted, exemplary and unwearied Christian.
