FRANK L. ELWELL
Havre – Frank L. Elwell, 92, died Wednesday (November 7, 1990) at a Havre nursing home of natural causes.Mr. Elwell was born in McIntire, Mitchell Co., Iowa, December 14, 1897, to Tileston S. and Susan M. Walbridge Elwell. He came to Havre in 1916 with his parents to homestead in northeast Hill County. He started work as a truck driver in October 1918 for Gamble Robinson Wholesale. He was promoted to salesman in 1921, then to bookkeeper in 1922 and to manager in July 1923. He worked there until 1941. He purchased the Super Ice Cream business and ran that for three years. In 1945 he helped start the VFW, serving as the first manager for three years. He went to work for the City of Havre as deputy city clerk, later becoming deputy Hill County treasurer. He late became a real estate broker, retiring January 1, 1984.
On March 20, 1947 he married the former Margaret Caughren in Billings.
He is survived by his son, Donald F. Elwell of Edina, Minn.; a brother, Arthur Elwell of Ogden, Utah; a sister, Gladys Shearer of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren; and two grat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and his parents.
Hotland & Bonine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned.
