Obituary

Bernice Josephine Machin was born April 5, 1916, at Monroe, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Emma Dixon Machin. In 1928 the family moved to Osage and the following years were spent at Osage and New Haven.

On September 12, 1935, she was united in marriage to Edward Royek, of New Haven. To this union was born a daughter, Shirley Ann. About three years ago a fatal malady made itself manifest, and then began a life of intense suffering, lightened by intervals of relief, which, however, grew briefer as the illness ran its course. She passed away at her home in New Haven, January 27, 1939, at the age of 22 years, 9 months and 22 days.

Her gentle manner endeared her to her associates, and before illness sapped her energy and ambition, she eagerly and willingly helped in time of need.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and baby daughter; her father and mother of Osage; one sister, Bessie (Mrs. Louie Buckholtz), of Alta Vista; two brothers, Harold, of Saratoga, and Raymond, of New Haven; three nieces, and a number of relatives and friends.

Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

The funeral mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Mayer at St. Peter's church, New Haven, January 30, and burial was in the nearby cemetery.

Pallbearers were Leo Lockwood, Al Jahnel, Paul Meirick, Walter Meirick, James Palmer and Vincent Miller. Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Machin; Walter Machin, and Mrs. Robert Kelleson of Newton, Iowa; Mrs. and Mrs. Chester Bridgewater and daughters, Vivian and Helen and Mr. and Mrs. Robery Grisby, all of Elmwood, Ill.; and John Royek and Stanely Royek of Chicago.
