Joseph Gerhartz,
a Long-time Resident
of Meyer, Is Dead

Joseph Gerhartz, 83, died on his home farm, near Meyer last Thursday after a brief illness. He had been making his home with his son, Matt.

Mr. Gerhartz was born on January 20, 1856, at Johnsburg, Illinois, and came to Mitchell county about sixty years ago. He had lived on one farm for forty-three years.

He married Susanna Heimer June 14, 1884. In 1914 Mr. Gerhartz, retired from farming and erected a pleasant home in Meyer where his wife died March 14, 1934.

He was the father of nine children, five of whom survive and are as follows: Matt and William, of Meyer; Mrs. Nick A. Freund, of Marshfield, Wis.; Mrs. Joseph Winkels of LeRoy, Minn., Mrs. Fred Blake, of McIntire. There are also twenty-three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Anton Klapperich, of Meyer, died in 1925; three children died in infancy.

Funeral service was held at 9 o'clock last Saturday at the Sacred Heart church at Meyer, the mass read by the Rev. Father Stirn, and interment was made in the Meyer cemetery.
