HANSEN, John 1863-1895

HANSEN, LARSON

The sad news of the death of John Hansen was telegraphed to St. Ansgar Monday morning, his death occurring on Sunday.

About two or three months ago he went to McCook, Nebraska to get where the climate was better and there seemed to regain his health and strength, and only a little more than a week previous to his death went to Denver, Colorado, where he hoped that the climate would be still better for him. Directly on arriving there he wrote to his brother, Manuel, that he was looking so much better that an acquaintence would hardly know him, so that his death was entirely unexpected. It was undoubtedly the trouble that he was too high up on the mountains. It is sad to think of a friend dying alone and among strangers.

Word was sent for his remains to be buried there, as his father and sister Antonette are both on the Pacific Coast.

The deceased was about thirty-two years of age. He was born in Norway, where he lived until four or five years of age when he came to America with his parents. They lived for a number of years at Green Bay, Wisconsin. Eighteen years ago they came to St. Ansgar which had since been his home. He was a young man whose excellent qualities and quiet disposition won for him many friends who sadly mourn his death.

He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Henry Larson and Antonette now of Tacoma, Washington and one brother, Manuel of St. Ansgar. His father also survives him now being also at Tacoma, Washington.

Note:
First Lutheran Burial Records do record his burial at the First Lutheran cemetery in St. Ansgar.
