OSAGE, IOWA — Funeral services, for Martin Field will be held on Wednesday at 1:15 p. m. at Champion Funeral Home, and 2 p.m., at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

100 YEARS OLD — Martin 0. Field, Osage, will celebrate his 100th birthday April 15. An open house will be held at his home from 2 to 5 p.m.
Martin Field was born on a farm at Nordre Aurdal, Valdres, Norway. He came to this country with his parents at the age of 10. They came by team and wagon to Mitchell County, in the Rock Creek community, in 1869, where he lived until moving to Osage in 1955. He was married to Gunhild Moe in 1892.
They had four children, Mrs. Milton (Mina) Wamstad, who died in 1956; Oscar, who died in 1954; Mrs. Tillman (Gea) Norby and Olga Field, with whom he lives.

Martin Field came to America in 1868 at the age of ten years with his parents Ole and Gunhild Fjeld and his two brothers from Norde Aurdal in Valdres, Norway. A year was spent in Wisconsin before the family settled in the Rock Creek area. He attended the Walnut Grove school at Meora. His first teacher was Paul Myer. He was a member of the first confirmation class at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1973. He assisted his father on the farm and took over the farm when his parents retired.
On June 3, 1892 he was united in marriage to Gunhild Moe, daughter of Ole and Guri Moe. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary June 3, 1942. Mrs. Field passed away March 22, 1943.
They were parents of four children Mina, Oscar, Gea, and Olga. Mina married Milton Wamstad on June 10, 1914, Gea married Tillman Norby on June 5, 1919. Oscar and Olga lived with their father on the farm, Oscar taking over the operation of the farm after his father retired. In 1955 he and daughter Olga moved into Osage, Iowa, Oscar having passed away February 11, 1954.
Martin Field saw many changes in his lifetime, he lived through the time of stage coaches, early locomotives, automobiles, airplanes, telephone, radio and television. He had reached the age of 101 at the time of his death July 19, 1959. The farm is still in the family and is owned by his grandson John Norby.
