Died at Her HomeMrs. John L. Olson passed away at her home last Saturday at midnight, after declining in health for about three months. She appeared somewhat better the last few days of her life, and several of her children who had been at their mother's bedside, including a daughter,Mrs. Francis L. Dora Martin was born in Norway on March 25, 1857. When a young woman of 15, she emigrated to Wisconsin and settled with relatives near Stoughton. There she met and married John L. Olson. This life partnership, of increasing devotion, lasted 47 years.
The thrifty and ambitious couple bought a farm in Floyd county, seven miles southwest of Osage where they raised three sons and three daughters, sending them through school at much personal sacrifice, and providing the incentive for college educations,so that all have taken useful places in business and professional life.
"Mother Olson" played the organ and sang in the community church in Wisconsin, and was a leader in the Fairview church near their farm in Floyd county.
Since 1919, when the family residence was established in Osage, as long as her advancing age premitted, she was an active attendant at the Sunday services and a faithful participant in the mid-week meetings of the Methodist church, of which she had been a member for years. Many a grateful neighbor will testify to her quiet charity and to her unobtrusive helpfulness in times of sorrow and need.
Surviving are her husband and the following children: Mrs. Francis L. Albert, Great Lakes, Michigan; Eunice, Greensville, Kentucky; Hazel, Jacksonville, Illinois; James, Austin, Minnesota; Tom, Waterloo; Frederick, Mason City.
The funeral service was held at the Shelledy funeral home on Thursday afternoon, conducted by Dr. Gilbert Chalice, and interment was made in the Osage cemetery.
