LEROY JOHN GILBERT
OSAGE, IOWA - LeRoy John Gilbert, 79, of Osage, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at the Faith Home in Osage.
LeRoy was born April 11, 1920, on the family farm northwest of New Hampton near North Washington, the son of Peter and Susanna (Ungs) Gilbert. He married Alma Langreck on August 31, 1948, at St. Lucas. He farmed on the Gilbert family farm until 1982, when he retired. He moved to Des Moines, where he lived for five years and was employed as an apartment manager. He then moved to Mason City, where he lived for nine years. The last three years he has lived in Osage. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years, and was a member of the Osage Senior Citizens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Philip Recker officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in St. Mary's Cemetery in New Hampton.
Visitation at Champion Funeral Home in Osage will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., followed by a scripture wake service at 8 p.m.
He is survived by four sons, Denis Gilbert and wife, Rita, of Omaha, Neb., Gary Gilbert and wife, Pam, of Osage, Alan Gilbert and wife, Ruth, of Ionia, and Warren Gilbert and wife, Jean, of Plymouth; three daughters, Ardell Stoller and husband, David, of Jupiter, Fla., Diane Swan and husband, Kevin "Casey" of Spring Hill, Kan., and Lori Schmidt and husband, Carl Jr. "Cubby", of New Hampton; two sisters, Elizabeth Brinks and husband, Edwin, of New Hampton, and Leona Murphy and husband, Edward, of Waterloo; one step-sister, Catherine Lensing, of New Hampton; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Emily; and a step-brother, Henry Gilbert.
