William C. Gardner 1869-1934

WILLIAM GARDNER OF OSAGE NURSERY COMPANY SUCCUMBS
SUFFERED POOR HEALTH 5 YEARS
WAS MEMBER OF LARGE FIRM; SURVIVED BY WIDOW AND FOUR DAUGHTERS

Osage, Nov 8 – William Gardner, 65, member of the Gardner Nursery company, died at 3 o’clock Thursday morning. He had been in poor health nearly five years and seriously ill in recent months. He made his last visit to the office a few weeks ago.

Mr. Gardner was the son of the late Charles Gardner, who was the originator of the Everberry, an ever bearing strawberry. The nursery was established by his grandfather, Nathaniel Gardner. He was in the printing establishment, rather than the horticulture department and was an expert in color makeup.

The nursery expanded from a few acres to one of the largest nurseries in the state and was widely known in this section. Mr. Gardner was a member of the old sixth regiment band and was Happy of the Happy Hulligan band that toured the state 25 years ago. He was a member of the Osage city band, playing any instrument asked, until that organization disbanded a few years ago.

He was married to Clara Huntington, who survives with four daughters; Mrs. Will Naden of Webster City; Mrs. Doris Taylor and Mrs. Linton Arsers of Osage and Mrs. Galen Gabby of Carroll.

Surviving is his brother, Clark E. Gardner, who was the head of the business department of the nursery. He was a member of the Methodist church.
