MRS. E. HERRING

Riceville – Mrs. Elizabeth (Bess) Herring, 84, who gave this community the land for its golf course, died Tuesday at Riceville Community Hospital.

Mrs. Herring had donated the property to Riceville in memory of her husband, James, who died in 1954.

Funeral services for her will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Congregational Church here with the Rev. David Fye officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. There will be Estern star rites at the Cemetery. Visitation is at the Chisholm Funeral Home here.

Survivors include two brothers: Dr. T. S. Walker of Riceville and Dr. William Walker of Brockton, Mass.; and four sisters, Mrs. Daisy Lappin of Riceville; Mrs. Nora Wyatt of St. Paul; Mrs. Clark Kelly of Charles City; and Alys Walker of Riceville.

Elizabeth (Walker) Herring was born November 1880 in Minnesota, the daughter of Hugh Thomas Walker and Ella (Gordon) Walker. She married James William Herring, the son of Eugene and Elizabeth Herring.
