DIED
ECKFORD - At his residence, north of Osage, Iowa, Friday, Dec. 7, 1888, William Turnbull Eckford, in the 62d year of his age.
Mr Eckford was one of Mitchell county's oldest settlers. He was born in Peebleshire, Scotland, September 5, 1827, emigrated to America in 1855, and to this county about 1858. He was a brother to James, Robert, John and William (deceased) Eckford, all well known here. In his pioneer life he experienced great hardships, but his indomitable will and native working powers overcame reverses until he became one of our wealthiest farmers. Mr. Eckford was a bachelor.
He was a man of strict integrity, whose word was as good as his bond and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. For several years his health had been very poor, but buoyed up by tender care, he survived the expectations of many friends. He bequeathed all his property to his sister, Janet, who has through all his struggles been his faithful companion and housekeeper.
The funeral took place at his residence on Monday. Rev. C. B. Moody of the Congregational church, officiating where a large number of old friends gathered for the final parting.
